I'm currently going through a massive Pulp renaissance, which does bring joy to my otherwise dull tube journeys to and from work. And whilst browsing for Jarvis-related goodness on pootube, I came across 5minutes and 22 seconds of sheer unadulterated pleasure:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YX4aj1JYNwc

Cor!!! Haven't seen this since I was 15!!! This is how a live performance should be, and perhaps the bestest Pulp track ever, ever, ever!!!

Anyway...my gift to you all...welcome to the Pulp thread. I know it's been done before, but hell!!! At least now lucyamb and myself now have somewhere to go to in order to relieve our tensions. And that's what counts.

This weekend I plan on getting drunk with a fellow Pulpist and watching The Park Is Mine - it will be better than bestest.

I plan to get drunk by myself and watch my Pulp Hits DVD. For that DVD always seems to feature highly in my drunken hi-jinx. Takes me riiiiight back that does...

EDIT: Just realised how sad I sounded there.... Embarassed

The tracklists on these beauties really is something, isn't it?
I'm rather pleased to see that the reviews of these sets seem to be considering 'Hardcore' in a positive light, as well they should. Here's hoping 'His 'N' Hers' is a wee bit less tinny on this version.

Sorry to gatecrash Pulp fans... but Rusty, you might be interested to know that if you search YouTube for "Luke Haines" there's a great deal of footage of his recent one man show from the Edinburgh Fringe. Very Happy

It all gets a bit much around the 3:33 minute mark with that sexy dance....and get Steve Mackey tossing his bass around...mmmm!!!! And I like the fact that Russell Senior can barely play the violin better than I can.

I decided while watching it that every band needs a violin player at some stage. If I ever form a band, you will be my first choice, and soon you too can have a league of chaps lusting after you and your fiddle, like Lucy... Wink

Ooh, I do love Jarvis.

I pretty much doubt that would ever transpire!!! But I would lurrrrrve to be in your band, ARJ!!! Specially with your new shoes. They are of the fab.

Ooh, thank you. Although if I was in the band I'd have to perform in mega-high designer shoes, thank you very much. It could be a gimmick - all-black outfit, but really bright shoes. And we could have a song called "rusty66", seeing as Hannon wasn't insightful enough to write one...

In keeping with the Pulp/TDC vibe, I think I'm now going to pop off and purchase Charlotte Gainsbourg's album. It had better be of the good.

It's not my favourite song musically of Pulp's - but the first line makes it wonderful.

Mmmmm

Musically it's pretty good. Beautiful, even. Okay, not that complicated but still sounds like Theme From A Movie doesn't it? Especially those swelly violins. I need to get into early Pulp, apparently. Only have that album. You know the one. The one everyone between the ages of 12 and 36 bought in 1995.

I'm going to be a controversial here and say pre His n' Hers it's not actually that good.

There's some very good stand-out tracks in the three or so years leading up to it, but the albums as a whole aren't to great.

Freaks is frankly quite uncomfortable listening.

EDIT: Intro though is really worth buying because it's a collection of their best stuff while in the hinterland of record contract legal battles.

Cheers for the heads up Shelfster. I never realised until quite recently that like R.E.M. Pulp have been together since about 1756..

Can I now be controversial and say that Pulp are utter and absolute ballbag ?
Really, and seriously, they are offensive to the ears.
To call it music is an affront to Musical Youth.

Actually, the music is, in parts, OK.
The problem lies with the vocalist. The vocals make me want to throttle tiny harmless rodents and/or babies to the point where they go blue, shudder a lot and then go limp in my hands.
