Just had a thought today - it's almost 10 years (can you believe it??!!) since the DC Short Album About Love concert at the Shepherds Bush Empire, back in October 1996.

I know that, with the onset of DC records, there are gonna be some lovely re-issues set for the DC faithful, but are there any plans for an ASAAL DVD release? Thing is, is that I was there, but can't for the life of me remember much about that particular night, apart from the fact that I met a lovely couple, called Dom and Kathryn there, and Dom sent me a 'Scott Walker Sings Jacques Brel' tape not long after, and that this was the moment when I thought that learning to play the violin would be a good idea (10 years on, and I still can't play it).

Was anyone else there? What were your memories of the night? And could we please have an official release of this concert??!!!

Although it is ten years since I decided The Divine Comedy were ace and hurrah for that. Aw I was only 17! Big floppy and a lust for life.

I meant big floppy hair. Big floppy is more than likely these days. Well floppy anyway.

I was there and remember each little second from that special night, a wonderfui evening and a sore throat the next morning after lots of cheering and screaming. I already loved it when most of it got available in splendid audio quality shortly after. But having it on film ...

Thank you!!!

Did they really play Europe By Train??!!! Gosh! My memory is rather fuzzy!!! I do remember 'A Drinking Song' though, with accompanying piano-climbing by the Hannon. Very Happy

I don't think that anyone had heard any of the songs which were later to form ASAAL before this night. I certainly hadn't. Now, normally when bands play several newies at a gig, it can get really tiresome. I just remember being astounded, and I can vaguely remember a lot of people around me 'aw'-ing at the lyrics to 'If', because they were so cute!!

Europe By Train is one of the live b-sides on Everybody Knows (which were taken from that gig, were they not?).

Arses - when did they appear there?

I paid about 20 odd quid for the full set on Ebay a month or so ago.

So between ASAAL, the 'Everybody Knows' B-sides and the Rarities disc of 'Secret History' we are only missing 'Becoming More Like Alfie' and 'Dogs and the Horses'...

I really really hope one day they'll put the footage they shot at this show onto DVD. PLEASE!!!

Given the lacklustre sales at the momnet I doubt it'll see the light of day I'm afraid.

Well maybe a re-issue of ASAAL could include the DVD as a bonus disc, if they don't think there is sufficient demand for a separate DVD release.

Or maybe the reissues will now be shelved too... Sad

Judging by the lack of success I sometimes encounter when trying to buy the boozes, and even the ciggies, I guess you're right! I think it's only 'cause I'm tiny, though...

The follow up album, A Short Period of Mourning, was not as much of a success as Hannon had hoped...

Sorry. I just had to say that.
