I really love and admire it when someone expresses their passion about a song so openly. I did so myself in my thread about 'Europe By Train'. Very Happy

I know I get shot down every time I say it, but my favourite track from Absent Friends is Laika's Theme. It's wondrous: utterly beautiful and original. Melancholy and gorgeous.

"Sunrise" happens to be my favourite DC song, and as DC happen to be my favourite band, it must indeed be the most beautiful song ever written...

It's a personal favourite, but nowhere near as beautiful as Ten Seconds to Midnight/Tonight We Fly.

To be sincere, i've finaly discovered this song on the live at palladium.
Of course i've already heard this song on FIN DE SIECLE, but I think this song takes all his dimension in this live.

Also yes i adore this song, and particulary the final part of the song where the song takes all his poetic dimension.
this song is particulary BRILLANTE.
I could talk about intertextuality, because i see some Hölderlin, Claudel and Rimbaud in this song.

This song makes me think at this sentence of Hölderlin :
"all near and difficult to hold this god !
but at the place of the danger grow also what may save"
As if in the deepest night only the light could appear ...
that's what think the clever boy of the song, and this clever boy makes me think to another one : Rimbaud and his illuminations above all in the rythm of the song and in the end of the song, this sentence of UNE SAISON EN ENFER : "elle est retrouvée quoi ? l'éternité ! c'est la mer mêlée au soleil " .
The church-bells ring, the children sing
"What is this strange and beautiful thing?"
makes me strangely think at Paul Claudel's experience, the revelation, a sudden and strange evidence, Paul claudel, christmass, he is passing near NOTRE DAME DE PARIS, he is hearing some children singing in the cathedrale and after that he won't be the same anymore.

Maybe it's not clear, i'm sorry, but it's certainly because i'm french too.

It's certainly one of the most political. I think it's Neil's songwriting at its best: definitely some of his best lyrics. It points out how absurd these centuries of fighting have been, and where has it gotten anyone? Some of my family came here from Belfast, and some from Dublin, some from Galway, and some from England...there's STILL a bit of bickering between RC's and C.of E's within my family. And I'm fourth-generation American! It blows my mind how deep the cultural scarring is. Let's hope it gets resolved someday.

Wow, that was the weirdest post ever... All spam, I suppose, but it still had some poetic qualities to it. Neil would be proud. Perhaps he should put music to the above post?
