Cor!

Claire! I think I have just about everything DC-wise (albums on tape, vinyl and CD etc) so if there's anything missing that Neil doesn't have, I'll happily send it your way if needs be.

Will the Casanova 12" vinyl with lyrics sheet be reissued, I wonder...?

I posted this back in September 2003:

me wrote:
I was thinking about Setanta re-releasing all the DC back catalogue, each with a bonus disc. Liberation would have live tracks like the La Cigale disc; Promenade would have more of the studio sessions; Casanova could have videos, live performances and Christmas With The Hannons (I will get me that song!); ASAAL would come with a DVD of the SBE gig; Fin could come with, ooh, a DVD or b-sides or some Michael Nyman stuff or just about anything.

Pricing them all for a tenner or less would see them gobbled up too, especially if they wait for Parlophone to start promoting the new album and use all their promotion to promote the re-release. Piece of cake.

Ooh, this is exciting! How come this thread is so empty? Quite big news, I'd have thought.

I echo Benny J - some spruced-up re-issues with a few extras would go down a treat! I'd buy 'em all again.

Well, yes. But I'll be more inclined to do so if they have sparkly extra stuff with them!

I never read the news page, so enlighten me. What is Neil doing with this label? Is it for releasing his own stuff, or is he putting out stuff by other bands? Do you think he might be starting up this label because Parlaphone might be dropping him? Neil could just be preparing for the next big label shake up.

I'm impressed.

That's pretty ambitious and farsighted. Obviously more work involved, too.

Good for him: go for it.

Well, you never know. Personally, I don't think they'd drop him because even though Neil may not sell bunches of albums, he does garner a lot of positive critical praise, and the major labels like to have a few artists like that on their rosters for artistic eye candy.

wooo, great news indeed. i'm especially excited about "you can expect to see photos you've never seen and hear tracks you've never heard."

and tdc are definitely one band that i won't mind getting their albums again for new extra gubbins on. because they're worth it *flicks hair back*

Brilliant news! - especially for new fans/collectors such as myself! I couldn't help having a nagging feeling that something like this might happen sooner than later, though...no artist wants to have his or her works go totally out of print and vanish from the racks.

Although I'm looking forward to the wealth of extra stuff that's been promised, I hope they manage to stay as true to the original releases as possible in terms of packaging/artwork. Don't know if anybody's seen them, but the Pet Shop Boys did a FANTASTIC job with their back catalogue reissues in 2001. Each album came with a 10-15 track bonus disc of vinyl-only tracks, demos, etc. The jewel case, along with a 30+ page booklet (featuring a commentary on each song) came housed in a slipcase with the original artwork.

There was talk of video footage of an early gig (Shepherds Bush '96?) will this now be released? Or is that too much to hope for?

what about a dvd of all the videos? they should have the rights to setanta videos now, so surely they could have all the videos from both labels all together, for good crisp big tvness. that'd be good.

I dunno, you know... If he's got that too - there's no harm in producting a few thousand DVD's cheaply and marketing it directly to the fanbase.

Har har har har har har har har har har har har har har har har har har *cough*

Don't get your hopes up Phil. Smile

And anyway wasn't it something about the botched up contract with the orchestra that stopped it from being released?

I don't see how Neil owning the rights would change anything though.

Just having a surf and got excited when I found Divine Comedy Records.

'Ooh!' I thought, 'there's another website on Neil's new label thingy!'...

It looks like there is already a Divine Comedy label in France.
The funny thing is, that one band is called Fin de Siècle Very Happy

I don't think that there's any more in common with our DC though!

Yes! Oooh, I'd love each of them to come with a little booklet, containing Neil's contributions to the Great (Witty) Inlay Essay genre inside.

Once heard a comedian saying, "'L'Oreal: because you're worth it!'...

...What? £1.99?"
