And yes, happy Billy Bird day everyone away from Miggymania!

I'm not sure about the b-sides so far, but it's nice to have a copy of the video. But buy both - Mr Hannon has a dog to feed. And a child. And a wife.

Miggy, Rob, Ivor and of course Joby still on board - very good to see!

And Nigel Godrich nicely downgraded to mere 'mixing'... phew.

It wasn't the one that came on the Independent on Sunday CD prior to Regen?

That was good.

That would get them all convinced that the Divine Comedy fanbase in Torquay is ** huge. They might even hire Neil to play at the V-Shop for the next single release.

Am I the only one who keeps listening to the new single and imagining Billy Bird being in that plane in the 'America 2002' icon at the bottom of the page? Would have saved them a packet if they'd used that for the video!

Maybe then they would realise the truth. Just drove friends home from pub, managed to squeeze CHBB in at least four times before they finally arrived home. And they were all humming it and joining in at the end. If this record had the exposure it deserves, it would be HUGGGGGGGGEEEEEEEE.

listened to it lots last night. i didn't really want to, as like prj said, i don't want chbb to be a song i'm too overly familiar with on the album. but i guess i've been listening to it for ages since ccc's version, so it doesn't matter too much. great great song, and the bsides are growing on me.
i like neil's crazy voice in the demo- partly when he sings 'screaming', and mostly when he sings 'come on billy junioooooooooorrrrrrrraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!' in a crazy morphed high pitch voice. 'tis brilliant! but then it made me finally realise that he doesn't sing 'come on billy junior' in the proper single version. poor junior Sad

The demo is fab. Almost a carbon-copy of the version aired at Canvey. Very woo, it be.

And I really like 'Girl Least Likely'. I wish it had been on Regeneration.

All three formats purchased, of course... can't comment on B-sides yet, but this is a single to die for. I'm not a Regeneration-fascist, but when "Love What You Do" came out I thought "hmm... nice... but no big come back feel to it" this song is a classic. I LOVE RADIO 2!!

Mmm... new vinyl... mmm...

At another listen, Idaho's not as bad as my initial reaction... Billy Bird's brilliant, though, I've been listening to it on loop. This is what pop music should be.

Woo, I managed to get CD1 today, but my CD2 hasn't arrived yet. Stupid local record stores. But I am fully delighted - getting to hear the strings and harpsichord properly especially: theygot lost in my weak radio reception. Love the gratuitous Beatles quotations :-D

Idaho I haven't listened to properly yet, for various reasons. But only an hour to go before I get to listen on even better speakers :-d Sounded a bit miserable, tho'.

Steve Wright just played it on Radio 2, which was great, but then he went completely weird.

'That it such a clever song, I really hope it's a hit', he mused.

'That chap's got such a disitinctive voice, you can tell it was also him that sang 'Take the National Express...'. (pause) Of course it's the same chap.'

Idaho = work of genius. I haven't liked it that much before, 'cause I felt the melody was so naive - but the intrumentation he's given the track on the single is just lovely. Especially brilliant is the accordion-style sound, which makes it feel all American folky.

Yuss, as Rowland says - I think it may be selling well in the Mancy HMV. I spent pretty much my entire dinner hour both Monday and Tuesday in there just walking around grinning. When I was stood looking at the yummy new CDs on Monday a bloke reached in front of me and picked one up. I just looked at him and said, "BUY IT! BUY IT!! IT'S BRILLIANT! BUY IT!!!!" He looked a bit worried and edged away. Dunno what that did to the sales for the day... Confused Hmm, listened to Idaho briefly before work this morning... It's not as I was expecting it and I was slightly dissapointed about that. I forgot how god damn funny it was though! It is a fab song. Not sure about it yet... I think it will grow on me. Also was fairly dissapointed that he's mellowed the original 's**t hole Utah' down.. hehehe!

Ooow! I forgot to bring it with me! Eek!

Ok, there's a lovely little magazine called Hot Press. I bought it yesterday. It's yummy. And it turned out to me the best buy I'd made 'cause upon reading it I found 3 (yes, 3) Divine Comedy features in it. One being a full page review of Absent Friends by some man who is clearly a fan of the old stuff and hates the recent stuff. But he rated Absent Friends 9.5/10. Along with this review was a very bizarre picture (drawing/painting thing) of Neil throwing cream pies at the wall. It's a pretty fair representation of what Neil's up to, I think..! It's odd, very odd. But so cute! I shall scan it in and type up the stuff soon... Possibly not til the weekend though. Agh this is a pain - this is the one day I've been put on one (there's only three out of 40) of the computers that has a bloody scanner. poo sticks. Will come back early Saturday possibly and do it. Thanks for reminding me Ro! (ps - in a little Ro boat!! *giggles* Only just got that this morning!!!!! )

Oh and in this bizarre review he also said that the opening track was Charmed Life and the closing track was Absent Friends....!! He's a bit backwards, me thinks. Also there's a lovely, lovely, lovely, foxy, gorgeous picture of Neil and Orla at the.. IRMA(???) awards..? Hmm. Shall type it all up etc soon...
