Howdy,
Just bought both cds and I'm happy to report that the b-sides are lovely.
Idaho sounds great. It starts off with timpani (I think) and nice strings. the second half is mostly piano and double bass until the last chorus which is nicely epic.

Girl Least Likely is a nice folky acoustic song about someone called Alison Green.
I'll try to type out the lyrics:

Well I knew this girl
in secondary school
All of her teachers
assumed she was a fool
because they never heard
a single word from Alison Green (backing vox: Girl least likely to succeed)
Alison Green (girl least likely to succeed)
Alison Green where you been all this time?

Well I asked her once
why she never spoke
and with a furtive glance
she whispered "I don't know"
maybe it's because
Just because I'm Alison Green (girl least likely to succeed)
Alison Green (girl least likely to succeed)
Alison Green (girl least likely to succeed)
Alison Green where you been all this time?

(It then goes a little latin for the middle 8)
Sometimes I think about those days
I wonder what became of my old friends
of my old enemies
all their hopes and dreams
were they realised or were they simply given up on
like Alison

Well I read somewhere
she started a website
and when she sold the shares
she found that overnight
she'd become a millionaire
congratualations Alison Green (girl least likely to suceed)
Alison Green (girl least likely to suceed)
Alison Green (girl least likely to suceed)
Alison Green where you been all this time?

*end song*

Wow as I listen to it again whilst typing out the lyrics I love it even more, a fantastic song.
The Demo version of CHBB is a lot like ccc's cover on the tribute album and very nice it is too.

so go out and buy it!

Upon further listening, it's not a timpani drum it's a bass drum on Idaho and the chorus vocals are double tracked beautifully. Oh, and it'll break your heart.

Yeah I had trouble finding it so I asked the guy in HMV Grafton St and he said it was meant to be in today but they didn't get it. Then he noticed something on the screen and told me to hang on. He came back two minutes later with a big box of Divine goodness. This was about 3.30pm.

Aargh!!! Thieves!!! Come back with my Billy Bird singles! I was only able to find one tonight in the Virgin Megastore. (Was even reduced to trying Golden Discs for them.) Fortunately, it was the one with the video, so I've finally gotten to see that. Me likes it muchly, but I'm a bit of a sucker for anything dreamlike. Ah, I love having the Billy Bird demo. It sounds much 'looser'. I prefer his voice on it (not that I don't like the album version).

Is it normal for CDs to get released in Ireland on a Friday then?

Yes, if a single/album is released on a Monday in the U.K., it always seems to be the case that it gets released here on the Friday beforehand (Absent Friends comes out here on the 26th, barring its interception by thieving feckers). Was that way with all the Regeneration stuff. Hey, there have to be some advantages to living here! Smile

Damn you! Does this mean we'll find out the Irish chart position for Billy on Sunday then? Or does that work differently n'all?

Erm, I don't know how/when they compute the chart positions over here, or whether there's even an official one. I've just never followed it. Then again, Larry Gogan (Irish DJ) does this chart programme on Saturday mornings (I think), so I'm guessing maybe that's it.

finally picked up the single from HMV this morning. cheers John! Smile I was gutted yesterday when I couldn't get it. Prolly the first time ever I haven't got a DC single on the day of release.. bloody truck thieving bastards.. Angry2
anyways, doesn't look like the 7" single is here yet, (hmv claimed to have 4 but couldn't find one of them)..prolly in the bloody truck.
I'm desperately hoping that it won't affect the chart positioning of the single, but I'm told that it could well do..

EVERYONE IN DUBLIN, GO TO HMV ON GRAFTON STREET AND GET IT! Smile

I managed to get the 7" today in the Virgin Megastore. They still don't have the other CD single in stock and tried to convince me that there was only one CD edition of the single available, and that the single wasn't actually released until Monday (this despite the fact that they had a copy of the available CD and the 7" on the desk in front of them...). I couldn't be bothered arguing over it. I'll try again next week.

*mumbles* I've not got a record player and hence can't play it. But, y'know, maybe one day I will have a record player and be able to make up for the fact that I've never had one, and also be able to play my Timewatch 12", CHBB 7" and Bad Ambassador 7"... (Well, I wasn't going to leave any of them behind in the shop, was I?!)

Managed to get the other CHBB single today, and I actually really like this new version of 'Idaho'. Smile It plays as sadder than the original touring versions, which sound comical, mainly.

hmmmm, don't know what other thread to put this in, so here shall do.
i bought the billy bird singles just a bit ago, woooo. 2.99 and 1.99, hmmm. the 7" wasn't in the new release bit though, so i panicked, but it was hiding in the pointless separate record bit. so i moved the other two copies to the new bit, so people could see. it's great fun rearranging music displays if the shop hasn't done the proper job themselves Very Happy the records were also in clingfilm, as if they wanted to leak or something. also bought me mum's single, as it was a diddy 3" single, and i couldn't resist. just gotta wait til the end of the day to listen to them all.
