We have been told the first single from "Absent Friends", "Come Home Billy Bird", will get it first plays on BBC Radio 1 and London-based radio station Xfm today! Tune in to hear it on the Mark & Lard lunchtime show on Radio 1 (97-99fm) between 1-3pm and on Lauren Laverne's drive-time show on Xfm (104.9fm) starting at 4pm.

Can't think why Lauren Laverne would want to play it though.

Ah the perils of work, no radio access. Never mind, hope all who can, do, enjoy it.

No coming home for Geordie-Bird

Did they such much about it before they played it?
I'm on my way out so I went downstairs to put a tape on to record, and cause I the volume down so as not to disturb tv watching people, i didnt hear, i got upstairs again just intime to hear mark say "it's called Come Home Billy Bird"

darnnit, i wanna hear it again as i feel like i'm missing out. arr. great song. was a bit weird and slower, after being used to ccc's cool uptempo version, but it was still cool. i think the ending should've continued longer though, or maybe not faded out. but yay mister bird!

It does sound completely different from the CCC and live versions that I've kind of got used to. Very different in fact.. he's even changed the melody quite a bit.

I agree Laverne bint sounds ace.

I think Mark hit the nail on the head when he said "unmistakably Neil Hannon"... Fab.

hope so, hard to tell though. mark and lard will surely play it, but maybe radio one still frown upon dc.

ahhh, i remember when marvellous party was first played on miss ball and mister greening's breakfast show, and i taped it, and then retaped it lots until it filled up one side of a cassette tape. then listened to it constantly For Ever!! they were fun exciteable days

Gah frickin bbc radio website failed me. Xfm will probly play it during my 15-minute gap between work and home. Do you ever worry that you might die somehow before the album's released? That thought tempts me to naughtily download the albie.

Yes! I was tempted to make some flyer posters that say "Billy Bird is coming home" and stick them up around the uni, but a Babs Magoo web campaign should be made here and now. Do it, Chris of the three!

Problem is, it would feel like an immense waste of my time because I could be doing similar things for Amnesty, People & Planet etc. However, if I have nothing better to do on saturday (and I can find some wallpaper paste and a brush) I may well start flypostering.

(PS. Witchy- notice that they've started selling Fairtrade goods in all uni shops now? We made them do that, we did. Very Happy)

Top stuff, Benny! I knew the QM had been FairTrade for ages, but none of the other uni shops bothered. Have you got the postgrad club to go FairTrade? They can be right arses about stuff like that.

We wanted them to; the original motion that we were proposing stated that Fairtrade goods should be sold next to all non-Fairtrade goods, so that there was an alternative. However, the motion was only passed after that was changed to Fairtrade being sold "wherever possible", which is an incredibly flimsy get-out clause for any shop that can't be bothered. Not sure about the postgrads club as there aren't any postgrads at People & Planet, but alas.

Anyway, was there something about some song happening today?
