It's a bit annoying that this board does remove extra spaces though - you can't do any text/smiley-art for one thing.

ah, but you can make it so much fun with the extra challenge of doing that & nbsp thingy to replace a space, and thus make it look all complicated!

When and where? I've still not heard it. Has Dave Fanning played it?

The power of Neil.... a force of appeal... purge

yeh, the power indeed... I find myself listening to the radio all evening now. I've only heard the last verse and that was on crappy coverage Virgin!

Some dude on, I think, RTÉ Radio1 was playing it every now and again - regular updates from my mammy, you see - but I haven't heard it on any of the other stations as of yet.
I was thinking, and my head hurts now, but am I the only one who's not really all that mad gone on this single version? I really can't get into it, especially the chorus bit with a cacaphony of weemen. Maybe I'm just not highbrow/cultured enough. Like, it's alright, but I must admit I prefer the versions I heard at gigs. It's probably just me...

Back to the OT subject of spaces after full stops - today I had to read a site-wide email from the contract manager no less, with not 1, not 2, but 3 spaces after every full stop. I almost fell asleep between sentences. Mad

god, i'm losing the will to live. devotedly listening to steve wright after sending the show an email or two.
cant take much more lionel ritchie and will young. the burden is too great. the inane wittering on about preserving/ripening bananas and the idea of lawrence llewellyn bowen being live on air shortly is truly soul destroying

Heard Billy Bird - and (slightly ill-informed) - praise on Virgin's Russ & Jonno show this morning. Hmmm, not bad. Think that I preferred it live, but I'll give it the benefit of further listenings...

CHBB is right at the top of next week's Radio 2 playlist! (http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/r2music/playlist/)

With several weeks' worth of decent Radio 2 exposure, surely to betsy this album will outsell regeneration? It's so unusual to hear a band/artist/solo artist with band's name I like getting any exposure at all!

Pete and Geoff, surely. It hasn't been Russ and Jono since September 1997!!

After a completely shite day, I've just been listening to Jonnie Walker and on came Billy Bird.

Hearing it in the context of a radio show, the first thing that struck me is how utterly unique it sounds amidst the other chart material.

It's such an understated performance from Neil, no frills or fuss - just one hell of a great song. Perhaps the fact that it's so low key is it's power. It's such a grower - Radio 2 did it with Katie Melua, they're going to do it for Neil - where's that prediction thread?

Some time ago my mum said she heard Divine Comedy on the radio (she listens to Radio 2) and I said "Come Home Billy Bird?", "That's it".

Next day... "I heard that song again"
Next day... "I heard that song again"

This continues. And today she said she's heard it daily and some days twice and she's getting really fed up of it. She says it's a nice tune and she likes that it has a story to it, but it's beginning to get on her nerves.

Didn't realise it was doing that well. Hooray for Divine Comedy annoying my mum!

It is! It really stands out from the crowd, yet somehow remains eminently sing-a-long-able. Very good.

Yup, I heard it. It soothed my anger for a while, before she came back to telling us ** children's jokes and her typical coffee-morning humour. I swear I'm going to make my bedsheets into a noose and teach her a bloody lesson.

It was Ok though since you got CHBB, then a nice bit of The Beatles, before Wogan and his rattling chest!
