Hey. ok.

Firstly, Claire, If I've done wrong by posting this then delete is straight away, and I apologise!

These are the three different version of Idaho that I have collected over the past year or so!

First one was taken from the belfast gig on the Neil/Ben tour. This version of the song is the "country" version, and is my favourite. It's the same version that was played at the Bristol gig. Neil was on Guitar, Ivor on Keyboard, rob on things, and Simon on Bass.

second, is the other version of the song that was played on the neil/ben tour. and isnt the "country" version, is slower, and the base line is different. This one was recorded at shepbush. at about 2m 50sec you will hear a guy pretty much scream at the top of his voice. wnaker. so rude.

Finally, accoustic guitar version from seattle. Doesnt give much away about what the new bside version will sound like, but its kinda nice cos i guess it was once of the first outtings of this song. Also its great to hear the audience, lots of rumours went round about s**t the Ben audiences were to neil in america, but clearly the seattle crew ** loved him! Neil was loving it, you can tell he was having the time of his life! I dont think this gig is on my site at the moment, but should be cos its wonderful. Ill upload the rest of it asap.

Hope you enjoy em, and sorry if I have upset anyone doing this! All credit goes to the people who went to the effort to record em.

I kinda have this feeling that the new version will be the country version, and will probably have some sort of new chorus.

What do you reckon?

I'm gonna say the opposite - I prefer the other two. I think it sounds more from the heart, emotional, as an acoustic track. And full credit to the US audience for actually shutting the feck up while Neil's performing!

If I had to guess what the B side will be closest to, I'd go for the last one. I like the xylophone a lot but then, as someone else said tonight, you can't beat Neil on his own with a guitar.

Wooo to the Seattle gig! I remember hearing it on your site a long time ago and loving it - especially the way Neil holds out the last note in Your Daddy's Car for SUPER long...also the exchange when Neil tells the audience of his supposed resemblence to Niles from Frasier and a girl yells out: "You're much cuter than Niles!"
Cheers Phil.

How annoying is that ?
Little Neil singing his heart out, and the audience shouting their gobs off to each other.

Disrespectful bastards !

There's another version, innit?
It's an acoustic one, but not in Seattle. I should have a look on my back up cd's.

Anyway the acoustic version's way better than the ones he did with the band, they sounded boring.

Idaho isn't exactly the greatest work Neil has ever penned. I'll admit, when I first heard it, I thought it sounded like something he was making up on the spot.

I'm not really sure now, I've listened to them all again - they have their charms. The more I hear it though, the more it screams "B side". Still a top tune though.

There's definitely something a bit 'Christopher Lillicrap' about it...I think it's just the way he performed it on that acoustic tour.

It's a b-side for Billy Bird!

WHERE'S ABSOLUTE POWER YOU BASTARDS?

I'm presuming it will be a b-side to Sticks and Stones when it's released on my birthday in September. I'll look forward to that.

And what's this only one b-side malarky?

Bring back Setanta all is forgiven.

well, I remember a recording of the first Dublin gig with Ben Folds...well in fact I remember the first Dublin gig because I was there.

And Idaho was absolutely horrible. I seriously dislike the song. I recall somebody slaggin me for liking U2 and saying how poor the lyrics of Elevation are (which is true), and shutting up right after having heard Idaho...Something to do with pots and kettles.

I get the feeling it may be too good for a b-side, so it might be held over for the next album...

it'd still be the same if they were with setanta. the rules have changed since the casanova companion days is all. of course neil could've just done an ep with a multitude of b-sides, but seeing as he has a chance of getting into the charts (and kind of a necessity, to please parlophone) that's why there's a limited number of b-sides.

Well I guess you only had one b-side in the olden days.

By the way I don't dislike 'Idaho' in case I created that impression.

.. and it was usually the 'instrumental' version.

And if you mentioned an "enhanced single", it meant that either it was the 12", or it had a picture on it.
