Alternatively, you could make a really scalding hot cup of tea, and pour it allover your hands and face.

I've got no problem with spoiler threads at all, just so long as (like this one) they are clearly labelled as such. It's an official bulletin board, not a police state.

I think this spoiler thread and has been spoilt by those who didn't want the spoilers to spoil any thread whether it be spoilt or not.

I now detest the word spoil.

Decided Sticks and Stones is now my favourite track; sort of Casanova meets Fin meeets A Short Album About Love, and in fact the whole album seems to be a fusion of all that's gone before. Neil's hit the nail squarely on the head.

There are bits of every album in every track. It's like a greatest hits with totally new songs.

Could also easily pass for a soundtrack to a musical. It's huge and I love it to bits.

As I've already said, we don't mind people talking about the new album here on this website. This is providing people have the courtesy to start any new topics on the subject with the word "Spoiler" in the subject title.

That way others who don't want to know about the new album yet can easily avoid them. It isn't necessary to write "spoiler" in every post made in a Spoiler topic as that can be taken as understood. If you don't want to know about the album please just avoid the Spoiler threads.

We will not feel a lack of respect from any fan who chooses to comment on the new album in this way. It is lovely to see that so much feedback has been so positive Smile Just bear in mind that the versions you are able to download at the moment are not of great sound quality and therefore the not as good as the real album will be.

I think, having listened to it quite a lot now, I can probably say that it is his best album yet, in my opinion.

I love it.

That is all.

The guitar solo in CHBBird sounds very much like Echo & The Bunnymen's in "Silver"...and i like that !

To me, the stand-out track is "our mutual friend" with "absent friends" a close second.
And "freedom road"'s melody sounds exactly like some other song i cannot put back a name onto (someone will find out easily probably).

(ps what's the point of "laika's theme"...i barely stand instrumentals, there's been very few who really make it on an album).

A couple more songs would have made an amazing LP, pity that it's only 10 songs (+1) there !

The album's out (in full stereo, I presume) in just over a months time.

Most sites quote a tracklisting where Charmed life's the opener & Absent friends the last one. (i'd rather have this, it seems to suit better).

Personally, I think Absent Friends is the perfect closer...it's too much of a goodbye/riding off into the sunset type tune for an opener imo.

That's what I thought too when I 1st burned the album. (with AF as a closer).

It does work really well that way, but then I sort of thought that Charmed Life didn't work that well as an opener.

I have now burnt a copy with the proper track running and I guess AF is a great opener too. Razz

What strikes me then is that way, the 1st three songs are the most Scott Walkerish.

I dont think Charmed Life is great as an opener or a closer, but if i had to choose opener or closer for charmed life then Id choose Opener.

I just think with Absent Friends is great as an opener. people are just gonna sit there weeing themselves with excitment cos its so great.

in conlcusion, i really dont know.

Very Happy

I agree totally with the scott walker thing.

What now with the songs order ? I barely agree with almost every album tra k order i own. (I just usually burn every album i really like in the order that i find most suitable with bsides as well.
Have you all ever changed TDC's album track order yourself too ?
That'd be interesting to compare our customized albums btw

And as fas as AF is concerned, though it's much too early to make his mind yet, i'd rather have:

1.Freedom R (another Timestretched to me)
2.Sticks & S
3.Our mutual F
4.Come HBB
5.Laika's (i couldn't find any proper place indeed, i wouldnt even burn it i think)
6.The wreck OTB
7.The happy G (to put back some life gently)
8.Absent F
9.My imaginary F
10.Charmed L
11.Leaving T

I like most of the order, personally, but I would place Absent Friends last, and move Charmed Life to immediately after The Happy Goth.

Hmm I dunno. I guess after all those listens I'm getting used to the normal running order more and more.

Let me get back to you on that one. *thinks*

Hey anyone think this album is too short?
I feel like there's a gap that should be filled between "Billy Bird" and "Imaginary Friend". Dunno, those two songs don't link that well.
Maybe Absolute Power could have filled the gap brilliantly?
(but well Neil too needs b sides) Wink

Well, I've managed to stumble across Come Home Billy Bird (a tocuh liberation but more laid back), but cannot find anything else.

Could someone e-mail me the appropriate link for the rest of the album?

I love each and every song for different reasons. Yeah some of them are more catchy than others, but I think every single one has something good about it.

I still can't compare it to other albums though..I'm only just starting to compare Regeneration to the other albums.

Oh, and for the past week I've been listening to Regeneration constantly (trying to wrench myself off absent friends till release) and I can honestly say that I like it far more than I remembered..darn good album actually.

>darn good album actually.

Amen to that... It's *superb*. I think I posted a couple of weeks ago how I'd not realised the impact the tracks had made, and how much I was playing Regeneration over the other albums.

It's up there as a favourite for me, possibly *the* favourite.... That may or may not change around the end of March-ish, of course Wink

Aaah so I'm not the only one. The album just seems to gel together so well and the lyrics are far better now that I've actually been listening to them. I've even started to like Neil screaming the 'f' word on Note to Self Very Happy

I was particularly surprised to find myself enjoying the song Eye of the Needle, a song I had previously dismissed as drab..this is all very good for me though..It's almost like having a brand new divine comedy album because I never properly listened to it before.

Regeneration didn't do for me what previous DC albums had done on first play. It did grow on me after constant playings but I don't return to it with such fondness as I do with any of the other DC albums.

I listen to Fin or Casanova or Promedade or Liberation or Short Album and I can't not smile. I think I like Regeneration simply because it was made by The Divine Comedy, although of course it had it's moments.

The tracks from Absent Friends remind me of all the other albums at some stage or another, and all that was good about Regeneration. Wreck of the Beautiful would not have been out of place on Reg, and reminds me of Eye Of The Needle but with a bit of Casanova thrown in.

Neil has obviously learned a lot from Nigel Godrich and has used his techniques and blended them with his own grandeur to produce a unique sound that embodies the pre-Regeneration scale with the more intimate production of the last album.

For me it's much more what I expect from a Divine Comedy album, being such a huge fan of their work up until 2000. It's huge, it's warm, it's moving. It sounds terrific. I wasn't this keen when I first heard Regeneration.

That is just my opinion and I don't expect everyone to share it, as a lot of people only discovered DC on the merits of Regeneration. If that had been my introduction to the band, I personally doubt I would be such a fan.

I would however put Bad Ambassador in my top 10 DC songs, maybe even top 5. In fact, definitely top 5.
