Check out Amazon.fr too; I believe it's a number two.

Ah. Woollies have it at 29. That'll be why.

Get's all go to Woolworths and urinate in the pick'n'mix.

Everyone does that anyway, AP. It's a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon (as long you can manage to squeeze it out with all those kids watching, obviously).

So 'Absent Friends' seems to have done well at 'proper' music shops, it's done very well at Amazon (peaked in their chart at No. 6 the other day, fact fans), but it's still only 'officially' charted at No. 23. I think the way the charts are compiled needs a bit of an overhauling.

Looking on the positive side - it charted a lot higher than Janet Jackson, and she's been like s**t in a field on the telly recently.

Does anyone know the chart entries for all of Neil's previous albums? I fancy tormenting myself a bit more.

And Neil didn't have to whip his top off on national telly either.

Maybe getting Neil to flash a nipple at the FA Cup Final while duetting with Joss Stone would push it into the Top 10...

...or maybe not.

Neil's got too much integrity for that. But I wouldn't be surprised if for his next album he does all the promotional work wearing nothing but a thong and suspenders.

It's a thought. And I'm sure nobody would be complaining if it got a hit! Didn't work for Janet Jackson though.

I don't have time to read the rest of this thread, but according to HMV it charted at 13. Bloo informed me that it was 23 at dinner time, so I went back after work to check. The guy told me that their charts went by official BBc charty things and it did indeed get to number 13. He said - and I quote - "it did sell s**t loads"! So there. Its at number 13 as far as I'm (and HMV's) concerned. Yay!

Can't be at No. 13 in the official chart but it's nice to know it sold well through HMV at least! The whole No. 23 thing does smell a bit fishy but there's nothing to be done about that now - I suppose Claire would know how well it's sold but she's probably not allowed to reveal such things!

It's number 1 in my personal chart of albums released, bought, and played last week. Wink

It's ranked at 26,226 on Amazon.com with no promotion at all here -- that's not so bad, right?

I think I'll stick with 6.

You'd better get cracking and spread the word then!

Hmm - a couple of people have said to me today that they like The Divine Comedy but "didn't know they had a new album out." To me, that's worrying.

Seems the marketing drive needs ramping up a bit - and not just in the London Underground, either!

I only found out about the new album when I read a phil jupitus article on it in the radio times. That's what kick-started my interest again.

I get it, too. I go into a long and rambling History of Hannon, then they go away quite quickly Confused

So it's our duty to spread The Divine Comedy word. Which I'm doing as best I can.
